Matthew turns 1!

Matthew is one year old and I can't believe how fast time flies. Everyone says that but it really did just seem like yesterday that he was born and not sleeping through the night. We have had many opportunities to celebrate this little milestone. Since Ammon started training recruits (we call them privates...and rightfully so. They are NOT warriors like they like to be called) on Friday the 19th, I decided that I would head to Vegas for the first few weeks of the cycle (a cycle is nine weeks and it is broken up into three phases all three weeks long. The first phase is the red phase and Ammon literally wakes up at 3 am, works until 10 pm and once a week he does a 24 hour cycle. Needless to say, we wouldn't see him much and so I decided we'd go on a little trip during red phase). We left on Matthew's birthday, the 17th, so we wanted to have a little party for him in Kentucky and so that Ammon could celebrate with us.
Day One in Kentucky
Matthew's whole first birthday was baseball theme if you can believe it. Weird I know. Most wouldn't expect that coming from a mom like he has. Saturday the 13th, we got with a few of Ammon's fellow drill sergeants and their families, the Castillos and the D'Angelos, and headed to the Louisville Slugger Museum. Since we all had military id's, we all got in totally free and got to get a free mini bat. It was an amazing place and I had so much fun holding Derek Jeter's bats and seeing A-Rod's special size and weight. We learned all about it and got to see the world's biggest bat and a glove cut from limestone that was in the KY area. We got to see the Silver Slugger, how they can make a bat in a few seconds and see how they hand dip every single one individually. Afterwards, we went to Buffalo Wild Wings, Ammon's favorite place and since they have big TVs playing baseball, and got to have a big cookie for Matthew's "cake." He loved it of course and we loved watching him eat it. The day was a lot of fun and Matthew has loved playing with his little bat ever since (even if he's hit himself in the head about six times). He is definitely on track to be a baseball star. Matthew looking at Brooke. His best friend in Kentucky. They got him a drum set. It is SO cool!

Our neighbors, the O'dells, got Matthew his first Tonka truck and some soft sport balls to throw around the house. He loved it and I loved having him in something to keep him contained!

Day Two in Kentucky
I decided to get him a little cake so we could sing to him before we left for the airport. Before we got on the plane, we went to Texas Roadhouse, our most favorite place ever, and ate. Matthew had a blast chewing on the rib bones. He was a very good boy on the planes even though we ended up having a VERY long layover when it was supposed to only be an hour and we ended up getting into Vegas at 4 am our time!
