Happy 28th Ammon

With Ammon's undesirable work schedule of the swing shift Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and then double shifts on Friday and Saturday, we never have a chance to go out on anything other than a Wednesday night. Since we left for Education Week on Ammon's actual birthday, we decided we'd go out and celebrate the Wednesday before. I always love going out on dates. We got so out of the habit while living in Kentucky, I almost forgot how nice it was to be with just Ammon. We have been so spoiled having my parents be so willing to watch Matthew whenever we need and this night was no different. I wanted to take Ammon to a place I knew he'd like and since we are both burger people, Burger Bar it was. I first went there with Mytae and couldn't want to go back. The best part? Ammon got filled up* on his burger and fries and didn't even want a shake or anything! I couldn't believe it.

(*filled up in Ammon's terms means the following: so stuffed that he couldn't possibly even eat my final two bites that I couldn't eat, but then after we pay the bill and by the time we're to the car, he's hungry again. I'm really not kidding. Even after leaving a buffet, you can count on Ammon to be hungry and want food by the time he gets home. Something you'll always find him doing? Opening the fridge and staring. A must, especially if he just got home from work at 2 am.)

I like to take pictures of people's grammar and spelling mistakes on these so-called professionally made signs. I always wonder if these companies who make these things notice these egregious errors and choose to skip over them to make the person they're making it for look completely uneducated and stupid. Or maybe they don't see them themselves. If that's the case, then maybe I should go get myself a job! This is the same reason I can't stand watching movies with subtitles. My brain instantly finds these mistakes and looks for them. I LOVE finding them. I do that in anything I read. You really wouldn't believe how many there actually are, especially in official publications or bulletins at church.

(Dumb as it is, Frid should not be there. And if you do want Frid, then it should be Satu, and that just sounds ridiculous.)

We got to go to an MMA shop at the Luxor, another of Ammon's favorite things to do. Maybe one day, he'll work a normal schedule so he'll be able to watch UFC on the night it was meant to be watched.

We then got to go see Grown Ups at Town Square. Earlier, Ammon had been working with some guys for a real estate company here in town, and he was "forced" out and came home early that day. They had been doing some [questionable] business and so he was on the phone while I watched this billboard. You wouldn't believe what I found. WANG CHUNG EXISTS! For anyone who knows Ammon, you'll know he says this about and for everything (i.e. hand me that wang chung right there. HEY WANG CHUNG, come here. I hate this wang chung). Once when we were around Heidi, he called something that and she started laughing. She actually knew a person named Wang Chung. Too funny.

While Ammon worked the next few days, I was able to go and get him something I just knew he'd want, without really ever saying so. (When I ask him his answer? "Nothing honey. Just your love." You know that lie cause we all do it.) I got him an IPHONE! I was so excited to finally get it for him. I wrapped it up along with what Matthew picked out for him. (Does he know his dad or what?) A new shaker cup and about ten protein bars. We also got him a new BCAA drink and a new phone cover and shield, a Nike+ sensor to use with his shoes and phone, and a new arm band for the gym that fits money, an id and anything else. I also made him some S'more cupcakes all for his love of s'mores. It was a graham cracker cake on the bottom with a layer of chocolate cake, topped with a graham cracker mixture to make it crunchy. I inserted a marshmallow cream frosting into the cake and topped it with a homemade ganache, a marshmallow and more graham crackers. I had fun making them and learned what will definitely be better next time!

(Another funny story about Ammon. One of my dad's old mission buddies started a rice krispies treats packaged and sold in stores and later sold the company for millions. When Ammon found that out, he said he could do the same thing and now says he wants to "Yarbrough it" with all these simple things. He says all they did was sell rice krispies treats and so for the past two years, he has wanted to Yarbrough s'mores. Really. Ask him about it. He's passionate about the burnt marshmallow taste, the gooey chocolate and crunch of the graham cracker. He's picky too, but he thinks that there is a way for him to Yarbrough s'mores.)

We woke up Monday the 16th and I made him some spam and eggs (with toast and of course a Rockstar). He loves spam and it instantly takes him to Hawaii. The great thing? Matthew actually eats it too! He's made it for him a few times since and he'll actually eat a whole egg and three slices of spam for breakfast. If you know Matthew, him eating breakfast at all is a great thing!

He opened his presents right after since we had to get on the road to head to Utah and opened everything but the phone. I told him he could open it once I called and gave him the okay after we'd left. He didn't understand, but we said goodbye, gave hugs and kisses and we left to be gone for the week. I set up the phone with customized apps and the IZ Over the Rainbow song as the ringtone and called him as we were pulling onto Nellis with my mom, Sloan, Gav and Reese in the beast with us. It was great to hear the excitement in his voice when he finally realized what was going on and once he answered the phone. I LOVE giving gifts to people you know they'll love. There's not much of a better feeling!

We are so lucky to have Ammon as our husband and dad. He is the hardest worker I know and it's kind of scary to say or think about, but he is becoming more and more like my dad as time passes. That's good though, because I think my dad is one of the best people on the planet. Ammon works so hard and is so dedicated to serving people. I can't believe he is 28 considering I met him when he was 23! I'm excited for more birthdays and even better gifts I can surprise him with! Happy Birthday Ammon. We love you!
