Reasons to love October

I got to thinking about October and why it may beat out December for best month of the year. Every single week of the month, there is something new going on that makes me love it. Now, this obviously wouldn't be the best month for a baseball hater non-Mormon with a birthday in June. But since I'm none of those, here are the reasons I love October and am sad to see it go.

October 2006 conference. All of us at the Lion House. No Ammon. I was too scared to bring him around my family at this point! (ha!)
1. General Conference. We get to watch our leaders only twice a year and they chose October. I heard one time at an institute class that the reason we have conference in April and October is because Christ was born in April and John the Baptist was born in October--six months before to "prepare" the way for the Savior. We have conference in those months so that we can be prepared for the next conference in the next year. He also said that on the Salt Lake Temple, one side of the temple has the moons like in April and the other like in October. Pretty interesting.

My 21st birthday when all my friends took me out. We had so much fun!

2. My birthday. Okay. This isn't as big of a deal as it used to be. I actually really don't care about it much now at all. But, this is a time when people actually remember me and that always feels good. Plus, Ammon always tries to be super nice around my birthday--a major plus. I can't wait until Matthew gets the concept of "being extra good to Mommy" around her birthday!

October 2006 at the ALDS in Yankee Stadium. Most awesome trip ever!

3. The Yankees. So 11 out of the last 14 postseasons they have gone to playoffs. That is a MAJOR reason to love October. There's only one October. I love those commercials TBS used to play. You will find me watching every game, whether or not we have to change our plans to do so. 4. The fall weather. This shot was taken on the road to our house. It was taken about a week too late because this whole month, Fort Knox and its surrounding areas have been absolutely beautiful. Every tree is a different color and the ground is usually covered in all sorts of red, orange and yellow leaves. It has been so gorgeous around here and the weather is cooling off to sweaters and long sleeve shirts kind of cool rather than shorts and it's-freakin-hot-and-humid-so-I-have-to-wear-clothes weather.

Matthew's first Halloween 2008.

5. And lastly, Halloween! I love getting to do all the things that come along with it--baking, crafts, dressing up, carving pumpkins, scary movies, decorating, candy, parties, you name it.
